Title: Postgraduate in New Narratives

Location: Barcelona
Price: 6.450€

The Postgraduate in New Narratives is a programme aimed to create contemporary narratives through filmmaking, writing and strategy. Selected participants will be able to create a short speculative documentary along with VICE.

From April to July, Acid House will bring together a selected and diverse group of creators —filmmakers, designers, performers, writers, artists, musicians, activists and curators— to use their imagination to question our current reality and to design innovative visual narrative fostering new ideas and visions of the world.

WHAT WILL I DO?
The first edition of the Postgraduate in New Narratives is devoted to the theme ‘Alternative Now’. You will develop a project led by tutors in the field of filmmaking, design, conceptualization, journalism and creative writing. This project will be the backbone of the immersive programme, which will include talks with world–class speakers, workshops, field trips and special guests.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The three month programme revolves around three main axes: Speculative Thinking, Creative Narratives and Documentary Making. Through talks, debates, laboratories, and innovative formats, the programme seeks to offer a space for critical reflection and speculation, providing a hands-on professional approach to generating influential narratives. Participants will be pushed to build on their natural interests and intuition.

THE APPROACH
The programme is centered on the idea of using creativity as a tool to reimagine a company, an institution, or society as a whole. Speculative design is a methodology that aims to create new spaces for reflection, to embrace imagination and creativity in order to come up with world-changing innovations. We believe that it is key for contemporary creators to detach from traditional skill sets and specific disciplines, to envision new worlds and develop unique solutions in order to fulfill the complex needs within that world. Being able to take a critical and holistic approach to solving a hypothetical challenge, along with effective narrative communication, is crucial in today’s world. So, come imagine possible futures. Create your own story. Produce a speculative documentary. And get it out there.

Even an experimental routine is a routine: and we need to break out of the cycle. During the programme, you will get stuck into two–days of creative experiences where you will work on a stand–alone immersive project, tutored by writers, artists, and filmmakers.

Our disciplines cannot be cages. We want you to work and express yourself in an environment where filmmakers, writers, designers, artists, screenwriters, sociologists, novelists, can coexist.

We’ll spend a weekend in a special outdoor location. But it’s not all fun and games: we will be investigating emergent futures and opening up our minds.

We have invited all the international filmmakers, journalists, activists, and artists we admire the most. They will inspire you to be bold, creative and fearless.

It’s showtime. The programme starts with a day of conferences, performances, and a live set. With great guests. Not quite like your ordinary gala.

We have gathered some of the most talented filmmakers, writers, researchers, journalists, strategists, producers, thinkers, —from the VICE network and beyond— to work with you on your project. You will never walk alone.

Works that are worth doing deserve exposure and opportunity. One thing’s for sure, your final pieces will be heard. Make sure you live up to it.

You don’t like the world right now? Well, change it then. You will develop a Vice-like short documentary narrative telling your own version of the present.
